Bonnegueule - MINEL pour minet (partie 1)

Thank you so much for the insight. I know I am not speaking french but thanks for the understanding.

Pourquoi avoir cherché sur des sites en français?
Les sites anglophones ne sont pas au niveau? (Niveau style et transmission du savoir, etc…) Ou volonté de s’habiller à la « française » peut etre? (Vraie question)

I gave a simplified answer because I didn’t want to type an essay and I wasn’t sure anyone truly cared about the how but just more of the « he has already made it here ».
When I was growing up people dressed like replicas if each other shorts with ankle socks tshirts and hoodie. To dress better meant putting a Tshirt from Macy’s on, button it all the way up and tuck it in non pleated pants (make sure everything is well fitted to show that it fits you nicely). Of course the classic suit remained the highest step on the ladder you could go to look very sharp. Now in my head I am bilingual/multicultural, so my nature tends to automatically look at things through multiple lenses. I also remembered my mother talking about how Europeans (on average but the older I got the more I realized it is not necessarily the case) dressing a lot better or putting a little bit more effort when dressing better.
So on my quest to dress better I was looking through YouTube and I found channels like alpha m, men’s style and three that I cannot recall right now. BUT it wasn’t enough, I felt like something was missing, so I looked for how to dress better in French on YouTube and stumbled on videos from bonnegueule presented by Lucas. I really liked his demeanor and never stopped following they people he worker for ever since. And I am sure like some of us here, I was able to find multiple other brands and forums like yours (you guys are the first forum I ever even got brave enough to participate in my life) through bonnegueule. I owe them that much because they opened a HUGE door to many things for me.
Well there is a « little » story (not all of course) of how I got here.

That the common issue with ~99% of BG’s trousers, unless you upsize.:grimacing:

That’s the case for many of the members of this forum, BG was for most of us the first media talking about menswear (at least in french). Even if, since, we have evolved far from what we have learned from BG. (And their vision of menswear.)

cool story mate !

Bienvenue, j’espère que tu trouveras ce que tu recherches sur ce forum.

En tout cas, si tu veux des retours et critiques sur tes tenues, tu seras servi

Hi ! Welkome here :slightly_smiling_face:

Not sure if the question is « how is these pants supposed to fit » or « do you like how it fits on you ? »
Of course you can see photos on the BG site with what we can imagine is the vision of the BG team of how these pants should fit.

In your case I think you look good on the photo. If it’s the fit you want it’s OK.

For my taste the pant is slightly too much tight on legs and a little short.
And as said @Score colors of the shirt and the pants are too closed for me. I don’t see well but it seems you can’t use a blet with these pants, so maybe a lighter shirt could be an interresting option.
But again it’s my ersonnal taste only.

Haha I am aware of how critical you guys can be sometimes (without malice or sometimes a little bit of trolling thrown in) since I have been watching from the « shadows » so to speak. It still feels weird to see myself involved.

@Score He or she answered the question exactly the way I intended. I understand that you can really look at all the nuances in my original question. My problem was I didn’t know where the pants are supposed to sit on my body hence why I asked. I made the mistake to tailor then first before figuring that out (I bought them a while ago thinking they could just be worn anyhow but recently as I dive more and more into dressing well I realize that things aren’t that simple.) I am just realizing that where you wear your pants makes a big difference visually. Sorry if it sounds stupid but it’s as if I am figuring things out, and the more I do the more questions I have.

Welcome! Feel free to post an OOTD next time, that’s the best way to progress.
About how to wear your pants, well nah it doesn’t sounds stupid, I had a hard time figuring it out myself. Experiment, ask for some feedback and you’ll find what you like/what fits you best soon enough

What I have been struggling a lot with recently is where pants should sit which in turn affect the overall silhouette. So I suppose I am struggling with 2 things. I thought just putting « nice » clothes together would do the trick. I wish there was a guide to go more in depth about those 2 things.

Trials and errors are the key.
Why don’t you open your own lookbook here ? Use it as a some kind of moodboard, share things you like and try outfits inspired be them.
The good fellas here will be happy to share their thoughts and help you style the silhouette(s) you are looking for.

I have a French background like I said above so I subconsciously look for things in French as well. So once I found something to my « taste » I stopped looking.
Same as bonnegueule I am sure there is one (I remember Benoit from BG) mentioning something like that a looong time ago. Like I said those channels are the ones I came across and most of them give basic stuff like this is my winter outfit, it doesn’t explain why a silhouette works, it doesn’t dive deep enough into details but BG did

It’s hard to make a comprehensive guide that could suit for nearly everybody.

If you want to read a bit more about clothing, Stiff-Collar is the other main source of content regarding menswear in France. (As well as Borasification, the 3rd one.)
Stiff collar deals a bit more with high waist pants and how it modify you silhouette. And you have plenty of content creators now that try to explain it in a more modern way, with videos.

They are 3 articles from Borasification that I like a lot about high waist pants. Maybe you could read them.
