I’m located in Portland, Oregon and found Laperruque after not finding any us based options that had the more refined and minimalist aesthetic without looking fussy.
I’m considering the billfold in either Whisky, Natural vegetable calf, or .Gold Baranil Calf. My priorities are thin construction, durability, and a leather that develops a beautiful patina.
For those of you who have carried a La Perruque wallet for several years:
- How has the leather aged?
- Have the card pockets stretched?
- How have the edges and stitching held up?
- Would you buy it again today?
I’m also comparing it with an Ashland Johnny the Fox in Horween Dublin, so I’d especially appreciate any thoughts from people who have owned both or have experience with Horween Dublin.

Hello,
Unfortunately i don’t have any wallet from La Perruque nor any experience with ashland leather products but there is this picture from @Axl showing the patina of his items that are made in " Natural Vegetable Calf ", those are not billfold wallet but i hope it can give you an idea of how the leather ages in this case, he said he has had the wall for 3 years and the key thing for 6 years in this picture
I saw the Ashland leather product page explicitly mention that it can fit us dollars, it is not mentionned in Laperruque product page, i don’t think it’s an issue but i would still recommend to be careful just in case
Compared with pictures of La Perruque website
However, i own a belt from them and i think it’s good quality leather and well finished product. It’s a recent buy so no patina yet
Not sure if it’s relevant but i found this italian brand also, i don’t know if they are available in the us tho. I never owned any of their products but i think it’s better to have more choice and those are available in shops that have good products like Royal Cheese in France

I have owned the cordovan card holder for 1.5y
No complaints on my end, it’s an excellent product. It’s got a few scratches since I’m not particularly careful with such items which spend most of their time doing rollercoasters with my keys in my fanny pack. Should probs add some cream soon to give it a facelift.
It holds about 8-10 cards at any given time and the stretch is minimal, perfectly espouses the content. Not a single MIA stitching.
Unfortunately I don’t own any items from Ashland but over the years I’ve had bags, watch straps and a valet in Horween and they’re good products as well, if a tad less refined than La Perruque imho.
I would go with LaPerruque again for everyday carryables.
iirc they’re stocked at 180 and Colbo stateside.
Hope it helps !
Thank you everyone for your advice and for sharing your experiences.
I wanted to let you know that I reached out directly to La Perruque with several questions about the billfold, the different leathers, and the construction.
Robin replied very quickly with detailed explanations and photos that made the differences much clearer. Together with the feedback from this thread, that gave me the confidence to order the Gold Baranil billfold.
I really appreciate everyone taking the time to help. After I’ve used the wallet for a few months, I’ll come back and share my impressions of the leather, construction, and how it ages.
That would be great ! Hope you will be satisfied with your purchase. What I really like with LaPerruque is that it’s still very much a one man passion project, and it shows (I have had several exchanges as well along the years with him). Such things are getting scarce nowadays.
Top one is 5 or 6 years old, ipod is new and snake like leather Keychain + cardholder are 3 years.
No defect.
Check for discontinued or stuff with defect item as they are real bargain (74€ for both key + cardholder and ipod made with japanese baseball glove leather for less than 30€).
Bytheway Robin is a great ![]()
