And then on to the mill. A father and son, weaving side by side in a shed beside the family home. The tweed they weave is traditional of the region in its use of locally spun and dyed yarn, but in many other ways, it is unique. It is characterised by an open weave, allowing it to breathe and drape in ways above the run of common tweed; by geometric patterns on muted palettes — some inspired by the cloth archives of granddads and great-granddads; and by texture ramped up with thick and thin yarns swapped in and out of warp and weft. The yarn is specific to the mill, too: devised recipe-like to precise formulae. Base colours are offset or complemented with spot colours — those nepps and burrs — some decades-old family perennials, others newly devised.

Between them, the two men at the mill — the father and son — do the lot. Not only warping and weaving, but checking over their cloth over by eye, millimetre by millimetre, and repairing imperceptible faults with even more imperceptible needlework. No tweed leaves here until worthy of the family name — which, going back in the trade as it does some six generations, isn’t a standard likely to be taken lightly.

:star_struck:

Hello folks (or Bonjour as we say in London)

I’m Paul from S.E.H Kelly in, yes, London.

I have been recommend into posting here by two or three of our customers in France, all of whom said this is a nice place populated by discerning, considerate, clothing-obsessed (French) people – which is an environment that appeals to me greatly. I don’t speak the language (sadly the languages gene skipped a generation in my family) but like any Englishman, am no stranger to Google Translate.

I post quite often on another forum (Styleforum) – answering questions from people occasionally. and sometimes posting relevant bits of news about our work. I try to do it with a « light touch » but there is an environment there of brand communication so I don’t feel self-conscious about it.

Here, however … well, I don’t wish to be perceived as co-opting this place as a marketing platform. However, if people ever have questions about our work, let me know, or send me an email at paul@sehkelly.com, or private message, or whatever is most convenient. Sometimes public question-asking is good as it shares the answer with others, but again, I don’t want to be the guy who makes a good, prosperous independent forum something else. So if you wish to escort my to the exit, I won’t put up any resistance!

Regards

Paul

Hey Paul, glad you are joining in. It’s really nice of you to come and take the time to share on this plateform. As you can see, we love what you are doing with SEH Kelly and have been following the brand closely.

We haven’t fixed any rules about this plateform being a marketing platform for seller (with or without fees) but in the meantime, you are more than welcomed to share anything

Thanks everyone.

There’s no need to speak English (the language of love) for my benefit, please!

I can easily and happily translate.

Anyway — I’ll step out of the way until called upon, like a well-trained butler.

Do you like salted caramel ice cream ?

I do … but I had « salted treacle » during the summer and it was even better.

(Londoners love to one-up other people, sorry.)

Hello Paul it is nice to see you here ! You seem to keep having a lot of success despite the unfortunate course of event and I am glad.

Almost bought you the balmacaan this year if it was not for the barleycorn design. Can’t wait to see what you’ll come up with next year

Hello Paul,
Welcome to this pretty « little-big-place », it’s a great privilege and a great opportunity to talk & exchange directly with you here.
